Something You Know

from Lucky One by Alex McMurray

/

about

This one sprang forth one winter morning on St. Claude Avenue and has eluded letting its picture be taken for some time. Some songs are like that. Thanks to the dogged persistence of those involved we eventually got a pretty good snapshot.

lyrics

won’t come quick won’t come quiet
won’t make you cry won’t make you wail
won’t come slick won’t come sly
won’t be a letter in the mail

it will be something you know
something you know
make you fall apart
it will be something you know
something you know
that will break your heart

when you learn that you’ve lost
all your old muscles
and you can’t remember where
think on the past and your old hustles
well maybe you left them there

and it ain’t gonna be some great big mystery
won’t be no stranger on a train
‘cuz it’s probably sitting right there beside you
and all your life you’ve known its name

so goodbye my friends goodbye old Salinas
scatter my ashes in the shade
and think of the times that we had between us
every time you hear me say

it will be something you know
something you know
make you fall apart
it will be something you know
something you know
that will break your heart
