Ignacio

about

A tale as old as time...conjured on the sidewalks of the French Quarter on some damp afternoon not too long ago. Joined here by The Iguanas--North America's finest purveyors of pop...also our friend Mr. Glenn Hartman.

lyrics

Ignacio--i saw you with your chicken yesterday
Your chicken didn’t have too much to say

i think i know what’s on his little mind

ignacio--reminds me of a night so long ago

you loved me up until the rooster crows

and taught me all your city ways so fancy and refined

i see him sitting there so smitten like it’s written
but there’s something wrong
he’s sleek and slight and lily white and keeping quiet
don't he know it won’t be long before he’s gone?

ignacio--you took me in and wiped my runny nose
you dressed me up in all your fancy clothes
and made me everything i want to be

ignacio--i lit up like a streetlamp in the rain

but i was just a chicken on a chain

when you burned me out and turned me out for everyone to see

you know i love you and there’s no one above you
so please understand

when you were down and all the town called you a clown
who was it held your hand?

i was your man…

ignacio--no quarrel with that chippie that you brung
and if you wanna get your dishrag wrung

i hope you know we got the same disease

ignacio you felt your finest feeling in a flash

the time it took your taters to be mashed

i’m obsolete i’m up the street with anyone i please

Ignacio don’t you know my bible tells me so

have charity for everyone you see

give succor to the poor
now you’re the force mejeure

and don’t forget that when we met
you were just tom from tennessee
and as for me…

ignacio--by the time i get back to my kin
set fire to everything i ever been
i’ll think of how you touched me way back when

ignacio please do not write do not call
your city ways were too much after all
just call your new chicken by my old name now and then
just call your new chicken by my old name now and then
